A dated wood-burning fireplace had become the thing a Bellevue living room was built around — and the thing nobody wanted to sit near. We took it back to the wall and rebuilt it around how the family actually gathers.
Out came the old stone. In went a clean, efficient gas fireplace that lights with a switch and warms the room without the mess of wood.
Around it, we built custom lit built-ins — storage, display, and a soft glow that turns a blank wall into the room's reason to gather. The lighting is the kind of detail you don't notice until the sun goes down, and then it's the whole room.
This is the heart-of-home work we love: a wall that had become a problem is now the place people pull a chair up to.
